A clear cornerstone of our program here at Residential Life is the individual attention and focused contact that our professional and student staff has with their residents. We are proud of our efforts in this area and feel that they make a definite difference in the lives of our students. Almost all of our Hall Directors have master's degrees in a field of study called College Student Development. That means they went to graduate school to learn about working with and helping college students.

"My Hall Director is really nice. She sits down with you and talks about classes and life at college.

She makes you feel really comfortable and seems very interested in you. It is great!"

Now that you know that the Hall Director is there for you to seek out, you also need to know that they will be knocking on your door - seeking you out.

It is a clear priority for every staff member to get to know their residents, so don't be surprised when they set up a meeting to talk with you about life at UNH. Last year our Hall Director staff logged over 2000 in-depth conversations with residents about all sort of important issues - academics, relationships, behavioral issues, death and grieving, body image… the list goes on and on… And that doesn't include the quick "Hey how are you doing? How was that Chem test?" conversations that happen many, many times a day

Former Scott Hall Director

"My hall director asked me if I would be interested in attending LeaderShape - I had never heard of it before and she encouraged me to go. It was a life changing experience and the springboard for me getting involved on campus. I had wanted to get involved but never did. She was very influential. It felt great that she had faith in me. She always tells me about different opportunities on campus. Sometimes I can't do it but I love that she sends the information to me. It was amazing that she kept up on who I was and that she got to know me well enough to know that I would be interested in doing."

"Our hall director was amazing. She wasn't really like a boss or an authority figure. She just wanted to be a friend. I figured she would be like a principal but she wasn't. She did a good job of meeting everyone. I was a little nervous at first when she asked to meet with me, but she was so laid back and down to earth, it turned out to be a great experience."
