Want to get connected right from the start?
25 instant connections at UNH right from the start!
What a great way to begin your UNH career! Fun, exciting and casual . . .
These are all words to describe the great experience
of being a part of this learning community.

Located in Lord Hall and open to Liberal Arts first year students only, this coed community of 25 first year students will live together and participate in a 4 credit seminar style inquiry course called Skill and Will: Mastering the Art of Learning. Students delve into what it means to be a learner by observing students in schools, analyzing movies, and reflecting on their own learning process. You will gain understanding about your own and other people’s approach to learning.

"It's kind of a smaller community, which is nice.
I've been able to make a connection with everyone
right from the start. We are all friendly acquaintances
at the very least."
- Kevin Froleiks
First Year Student in the Lord Hall
Learning Community
“Being in the learning community and a hall
such as Lord has been a lot of fun. It ‘s
easier to talk to people because you have
something instantly in common with them.”

One of the great things about a living/ learning community is that there is plenty of opportunity to have formal and informal contact with the professor of the class. This class is taught by Ruth. Wharton-McDonald. She is an Associate Professor of Education and has worked at UNH for 8 years. She is a recipient of the Teaching Excellence Award at UNH.
“I think Ruth is a great teacher and fun. She makes the class interesting and encourages us to participate in discussions and express our feelings about various topics. ...I’ve learned a lot about the way people learn in this class and the atmosphere of it really encourages us to enjoy it and try to give our input.”
