Introduction to UNHCEMS®

This short tutorial explains the basic functions available in CEMS. New users should view this tutorial to become introduced to the CEMS homepage.

Chemical Searches

Searching for containers or chemicals is a basic CEMS function. Understanding how the search function works will help you get more effective search results. Searching is the best way to find chemicals to update, adopt or borrow. This tutorial will review the search feature and describe how to optimize your search results.

Filtering, Sorting and Customizing Search Results

In this tutorial you will learn how to filter, sort, and organize search results in CEMS. You will also customize data to create a printer friendly table containing specific information.

Searching for MSDS

A Material Safety Data Sheet is an important component of workplace safety; it is intended to provide workers with procedures for handling or working with that substance in a safe manner, and includes information such as physical data, toxicity, health effects, first aid, reactivity, storage, disposal, protective equipment, and spill handling procedures.

In this tutorial you will explore two ways to search for Material Safety Data Sheets. You will also learn the difference between viewing a MSDS associated with a container, and viewing a related MSDS for a container.

Marking a container empty

Marking containers empty is an important step in maintaining an accurate chemical inventory. Chemical containers that are empty and containers disposed as hazardous waste must be marked empty in CEMS. This tutorial outlines the three ways to mark a container empty.

Surplus Containers

Surplus chemical containers are available for free to UNH CEMS users

This tutorial outlines the process of adopting surplus chemicals and marking containers as surplus in CEMS. In the first part of the tutorial you will adopt a container of acid. In the second part of the tutorial you will mark a container of perchloric acid as surplus.

Door Caution Signs

Door caution signs provide important information to first responders in the event of an accident, fire or other emergency. Learn how to keep your signs accurate by updating emergency contact information, pictograms and other room information.
