Taking Advantage of Opportunities

Before beginning my internship with UNH Innovation (formerly the Office for Research Partnerships and Commercialization), I didn’t really have a good understanding of how business and other entities managed and leveraged their intellectual property. I did realize however, that if I wanted to find a position in house at a company after I graduated I would need to learn. This is where the internship came in. Because of the unique environment that the ORPC operates in, I have been able to gain experience in a variety of areas that I likely would not have been able to find anywhere else.

Now on Blackboard: A Tutorial for Creating Posters

In 2010, Sherry Palmer, a UNH staff member, completed the current iteration of a Research Poster Tutorial, Creating a Large Format Poster to Present Your Research. Just recently, I was able to find a way to share this detailed and extremely helpful tool with all of UNH in a secure downloadable manner on Blackboard.

IP Matters in Every Deal

I attended the 2013 Annual Meeting of the Licensing Executive Society (LES), held in Philadelphia from September 22-25. As I’ve mentioned in an earlier blog post, LES is an international association of members with an interest in the transfer of technology, or licensing of intellectual property (IP) rights - from technical know-how and patented inventions to software, copyrights and trademarks.

“If you feed them, they will come” – James Earl Jones

As the title suggests, that was my hopeful outcome from hosting numerous pizza lunches for CEPS graduate students in various departments over the last month. My objective was to make graduate students aware of our office, the services and resources that we provide, and to stress that we’re not here just to serve the faculty and staff – we want to work with graduate students too!

Transitioning from Employee to Student

The most rewarding endeavors are those that are the most challenging. When I left my job to attend one of the premier intellectual property law schools in the nation, University of New Hampshire School of Law (UNH Law), I had no idea just how rewarding – and challenging – the experience would be.

UNH and Avalon Promotions Announce a Commitment to Healthy Eating

UNH signed a license with Avalon Promotions on July 31, 2013 for a copyrighted image developed by Healthy UNH and UNH Dining Services, aptly called the UNH Wildcat Plate. In 2010, the USDA created Dietary Guidelines for Americans, to help remind them to think about their food choices in order to lead healthier lifestyles. With permission from the USDA, Healthy UNH and Dining Services adapted these guidelines, developing an image to guide patrons in making healthy food choices in UNH dining halls.

Attending the LES University - Strategic Licensing: Advanced Tools and Practices

I recently attended the Licensing Executives Society (LES) University course on Strategic Licensing: Advanced Tools and Practices. Esteemed peers from the US and Canada, case studies with twists and turns, and an experienced roster of instructors made for a very interesting and informative week – despite 8 hours a day in a windowless room!
