UCLA Creates Center for Research Laboratory Safety

The UC Center for Laboratory Safety has been created to improve the practice of research laboratory safety through the performance of scientific research and implementation of best safety practices in the laboratory. Recently scheduled workshops emphasize issues related to chemical hazards, and will provide a forum for lab safety professionals and researchers to discuss challenges with research lab safety and brainstorm solutions for creating safe working environments.

UNH One of Seven New England Colleges and Universities Honored for Food Waste Recycling Efforts

Seven College and Universities were recently honored by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with Food Recovery Challenge Achievement Awards.

EPA Analysis Shows Decrease in 2011 Toxic Chemical Releases in New Hampshire

The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA’s) most recent Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) data is now available for the reporting year of 2011. In New Hampshire, the overall releases of pollutants to the environment have decreased since the previous reporting year (2010).

Fire Extinguisher Training

The Office of Environmental Health and Safety is sponsoring live fire extinguisher training on November 1st.  The training is an approximate 20 minute block that includes a brief lecture on the safe and proper use of portable extinguishers, and also includes actual hands on use.  The training provides valuable information and experience that can not only be used here at UNH, but at home.  To sign up, please contact Brian Cournoyer, Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator at 862-4761 or brian.cournoyer@unh.edu .  Please visit our web site to check it out.
