Agriculture & Biosciences

Agriculture and biosciences research at UNH encompasses the study of living things from the large scale of farms, forests, lakes and fields to the microscopic scale of the processes in cells that make life possible. Much of the study focuses on the ecosystems that define New Hampshire – forests, watersheds, estuaries and the coastal ocean. Investigations in areas of genetics, physiology and microbiology are leading to a better understanding of how body cells and microorganism respond to their environments. Agricultural research also focuses on New Hampshire’s unique needs and strengths, including developing crops suited to the northern climate and finding ways to raise and produce the food, fiber and fuel we need in environmentally balanced and sustainable ways.
