Magnet Safety
Program Management and Registration/Disposal
The Magnet Safety Plan is an overview of the UNH regulations on magnet safety. All Magnet Users and Lab Supervisors should read the Plan. The Magnet Safety Plan can be foundhere. All superconducting magnets should be registered prior to use. Please notify us if one is disposed of. The online registration/disposal form can be found in UNHCEMS.
Emergency Procedures
For instructions in the event of a quench or a boiling off of cryogens:
Evacuate the room
Call your laboratory supervisor and OEHS or Michele Arista at 312-2500
Forms
Each superconducting magnet lab should have a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and a Risk Assessment completed. An SOP template can be found here.
Surveys
Surveys of superconducting magnets are conducted by OEHS biannually.
Training
Magnet Safety Training and Laboratory and Chemical Safety training are required for Magnet Users. Cryogen Safety is also required for anyone filling magnets with cryogens. See UNH CEMS or email Michele Arista for the training links. Magnet Safety Training and Cryogen Safety Training are required annually. Laboratory and Chemical Safety Training is only required once.
