OEHS Conducts Comprehensive Laser Safety Program Review

Apr 03, 2014

The Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) recently partnered with a USNH term agreement contractor to conduct the first comprehensive campus audit of the UNH Laser Safety Program. The audit was intended as primarily an administrative review of the program and inspection of laser procedures in place. Elements of the audit included management oversight, program changes, facilities review, equipment and instrumentation inspection, laser use, control and transfer, laser area assessments, training and instructions to workers, decommissioning of lasers, notification and reporting to the Laser Safety Officer (LSO) and posting and labeling of rooms housing lasers. It was the general conclusion of the auditors that the proper controls are in place for safe laser usage on the UNH campus. Specific recommendations to improve certain elements of the Laser Safety Program were presented to the LSO for follow-up.
