RCI Associate Director Develops Data Center Monitoring Technology

Aug 26, 2013

Modern data centers, Like RCI’s Lenharth Data Center, contain thousands of dollars worth of hardware and are equipped with a multitude of sensors that monitor a variety of environmental conditions including power, incoming chilled water temperature, air temperatures, UPS runtime, and fluid flow.  RCI’s Associate Director, Robert Anderson, developed SheepDog.  SheepDog is a system that constantly monitors data center sensors and alerts RCI staff 24/7 to potential problems in the Lenharth Data Center.  It initiates automatic shutdowns to protect the safety of the hardware housed in the Center and is designed so that staff can coordinate their responses using real-time environmental updates.
