Effort Certification and Required Training - Due October 1

Effort Certification and Required Training - Due October 1

Sep 27, 2010

UNH is currently collecting Personnel Activity Reports (PAR’s) for FY10.  Timely completion of the PAR’s is a UNH policy and a federal requirement subject to audit and financial penalties.  UNH policy requires return of signed FY10 PAR’s by October 1, 2010.

Each individual designated to certify his/her effort or the effort of others is responsible for having direct knowledge of the work and that the salaries and wages charged to the sponsored agreements are reasonable in relation to the work performed.  In most cases the individual paid from the sponsored project is the appropriate person to certify his or her own effort.  In other cases (e.g., during absences or for graduate students), the designated certifier should have firsthand knowledge of the individual's effort during the effort reporting period.

UNH is now requiring employees who received pay from at least one grant or contract to complete an on-line training module regarding effort certification.  Graduate students and adjunct operating staff are not required to complete the training. This training can be completed in roughly 20 minutes and must be completed by September 30, 2010.  The training will need to be repeated every three years or when there are significant changes to UNH’s effort certification policies and procedures.  Please find the training module at http://www.unh.edu/osr/training/effort_training/. Remember to indicate completion in the certification page at the end of the training.

Please see the following website for more information on effort certification:  http://www.unh.edu/osr/financial/effort_rpt.html.  If questions remain, please contact Kathy Wainwright at 2-3468 or kathy.wainwright@unh.edu, or David Browning at 2-0609 or david.browning@unh.edu.
