The calendar for Semester I, 2008-2009, allows 6 days for final exams. Each course is assigned to one of the exam blocks shown on the grid above. The day and time of the first class meeting during the week determine the date and time for each exam. For example, a class which normally meets on MWF 10:10a.m.-11:00a.m. has been assigned an exam time of 10:30a.m.-12:30p.m. Tuesday, December 16. A class that meets MW 10:40a.m.-12:00p.m. will also have an exam time of 10:30a.m.-12:30p.m. Tuesday, December 16.
Evening classes are placed in four groups according to the day and time of the first class meeting each week. Classes which meet on Thursday evening will have their exams from 6:00-8:00p.m. Thursday, December 18; classes which meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings will have exams from 6:00-8:00p.m. Tuesday, December 16.
Students and instructors should note that Senate Rule 05.23(s) states: "Examinations at the end of each semester may be given in any course, but all such examinations must be scheduled and given at the time they are scheduled....Practical examinations covering laboratory work may be given during the last five days of classes preceding the examination period....These exceptions apart, no announnced oral or written test may be given during the last five days of classes preceding the examination period." The last day to give an examination before finals is Friday, December 5.
A multiple-section course that has chosen to give a "common" final exam will be assigned to one of eight common exam blocks and instructors will notifiy students of the time of the exam. Students who are schedule for two common exams at the same time should check with their instructors to see which exam has priority.
A student scheduled for more than two exams in one day may request the instructor to reschedule the middle exam. Students who need to have an exam rescheduled should make arrangements as early in the semester as possible, but in no case later than one week prior to the exam(s). If the student's request is unsuccessful, the student's college dean will arrange for the rescheduling of exams.
A complete final exam schedule will be posted at www.unh.edu/registrar/finals/finals.html in November. Finals grades will be available on MyUNH via WEBCAT in January.
STORM DELAYS AND
CANCELLATIONS
Any storm delays or cancellations will be posted at the Final Exam Schedule Page or call the Storm Information line at (603) 862-0000 for storm updates.
Due to the possibility of inclement weather in the fall, it is imperative that instructors notify the Registrar’s Office if they require a classroom for their final exam even if it will be in a department controlled room.
The Faculty Senate has designated Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:40 to 2:00 p.m. and Thursday evening from 7:10-9:00 p.m. as Common Exam Hours for this semester. No classes should be scheduled during those hours. A student scheduled for a class or a lab and a common exam during one of these periods must be excused from class or lab to attend the common exam. See Senate Rule 04.16 (page 29).
