Six-Week Summer Study Abroad
Location
The University of New Hampshire offers a six-week Spanish summer study abroad program sponsored by the International Center for Language and Culture at La Universidad de las Américas--UDLA, Puebla. The University is located in the oldest city on the American continent, Cholula, and is surrounded by the Popocatépetl and Ixtalccihuatl volcanoes. Cholula is an ideal location for UDLA. In this city stands the great Pyramid of Cholula, considered to be the largest in volume in the world.
Program
The program combines two Spanish courses during the day, cultural workshops, special lectures on cultural topics, fieldtrips, activities with Mexican students, optional weekend trips and housing at UDLA dormitories or homestays. Students will be able to earn the equivalent of up to eight credit hours at the University of New Hampshire. This program has been designed to ensure students acquire the linguistic structures that are needed for successful communication inside a meaningful sociocultural environment. All of the facilities of the University are available to students from UNH.

Eligibility
The program is open to students who have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and good standing in conduct for study abroad participation. Applicants from institutions other than the sponsoring universities will be considered if space is available; such students should contact the University of New Hampshire at 603-862-3121.
Program Dates and Administration
Dates: May 20 to July 2, 2008
Administration: A member of the faculty will be in residence in Puebla to assist students and to administer the program each summer.
Housing and Program Cost
Students will be billed directly by the sponsoring institution through which they enroll. The program fee includes tuition and academic fees in UDLA, room and board, orientation expenses, field excursions and cultural workshops. Airfare, books and personal expenses are not included.
Students who are unable to travel with the group must notify the University at time of acceptance.
Cost (not including US-Mexico airfare)
The cost of the program in dorms: $3,192
The cost of the program in homestay: $3,442
Students accepted into the program must submit a $350 non-refundable deposit within two weeks of selection notification.

Application Deadline
Completed applications must be submitted by March 15.
