Program Description:

This presentation can address royal government, power, and administration in the age of Edward I of England (1272-1037), i. e. the bad guy in "Braveheart", royal government, power, and administration in the era of the Ottonian kings of Germany, i. e. the "First Reich" in the tenth and eleventh centuries, and in the economic history of thirteenth century England, especially the role played by war and the government in affecting the economy.

David Bachrach is a professor of Medieval History at the University of New Hampshire. He specializes in the military, political, and administrative history of medieval Germany and England. He has also published 10 books and numerous scholarly articles on a wide range of topics.
