Dodge this: do environmental chemicals impact your health?
Since the 1970’s, some 80,000 chemicals have been introduced into the U.S. environment. Most of these are synthesized for a purpose: DDT kills mosquitoes that carry malaria, PBDEs prevent couches from catching fire, PCBs insulate electrical systems, and phthalates make plastics more flexible. Once in the environment, however, these chemicals make their way into the human body. And once inside the human body, what do they do? What does the research tell us? Are they harmful? Are they inert? Or does it depend, and if so, on what?
