University Community Events

PEP provides strategically planned events, forums, and programs to foster a sense of community.

New Faculty Picnic

President Mark Huddleston hosted more than 100 new faculty, their families, and UNH administrators at the annual event on August 27, 2007, on the patio of The Gables (an apartment complex for sophomores, juniors, and seniors).

The picnic provided an opportunity for incoming faculty to unwind after their first day of orientation, to meet each others families, and to meet members of the administration.

University Day Picnic

The largest event of the fall semester, the picnic is the traditional kick-off event of the new academic year. The picnic and Student Activities Fair, held on September 18, 2007, had a record turnout of an estimated 10,000 students, faculty, staff, and community members who learned about opportunities to get involved, participated in interactive demonstrations and activities, listened to live music, and enjoyed the cookout compliments of University Hospitality Services.

To further advance the sustainable efforts at the University, this year’s event included “Toss It” disposal sites for trash, recycling, and composting. Five full bins of clean compost were collected and taken to Kingman Farm, the University's 350-acre agronomy research facility and home to eight large compost windrows.

International Community Breakfast

The International Community Reception was held on the lawn in front of Scott and Smith Halls as well as inside Smith Hall on September 10, 2007.

This welcoming event provided the opportunity for more than 300 of UNH’s international community members to interact and learn more about available resources on campus.

Durham Community Breakfast

This annual event provides a forum for Durham businesses, community leaders, and town officials to strengthen their mutually beneficial relationship with UNH. The breakfast, held in Huddleston Hall on November 2, 2007, focused on community planning.

Members of the Durham and UNH community discussed the highlights, goals, successes, and processes behind several of the community planning projects in Durham and at UNH.

State of the University

PEP coordinated the annual State of the University Address on November 15, 2007. President Huddleston stated that in his first six months, he was confident that “UNH gets it right” in sustainability efforts and partnerships with business, government, and nonprofit sectors.

Holiday Skating Party

PEP partnered with the Whittemore School of Business and Economics' Hospitality Management Program for the third year to mentor the students in the Meeting Planning Management class. The students worked directly for and with the PEP staff to plan and execute the annual skating party for faculty, staff, their families, and the Durham community.
