Academic Ceremonies and Events
Commencement
The Class of 2008 participated in the University of New Hampshire's 138th Commencement Ceremony at Memorial Field on Saturday, May 24. City Year CEO and cofounder Michael Brown delivered the Commencement address to more than 2,200 graduating students, 200 faculty members, 150 volunteers, and 16,000 guests.
2008 Honorary Degree and Granite State Award Recipients included:
Michael Brown - Doctor of Humane Letters; Charles Simic - Doctor of Letters; Daniel Mariaschin - Doctor of Humane Letters; Joanne Lamprey - Granite State Award
Honors Convocation
On Friday, May 23, 2008, the University community celebrated the outstanding academic achievements of more than 1,000 undergraduate degree candidates at the annual Honors Convocation ceremony in the Whittemore Center Arena.
Certificates and cords signifying academic achievements were presented to a record number of students to wear at Commencement.
University Honors Program students were also presented with stoles.
The 2008 keynote address entitled “The Truth: Rarely Pure, Never Simple” was delivered by David Richman, professor of theatre and humanities.
Commencement Fair
Building upon the success of previous years, a record 1,100 students attended the fourth annual Commencement Fair held on April 15, 2008.
The Commencement Fair provided graduating students with one-stop shopping for all their graduation needs including: purchasing a cap and gown, resources for job hunting, consolidating loans, and information on the benefits of joining the UNH Alumni Association.
Academic Convocation
The Academic Convocation on September 18, 2007, provided the perfect forum to launch the third year of the Discovery Program's University Dialogue, a yearlong series of discussions on the topic of democracy. The Discovery Authors, representing a wide range of expertise, served as panelists.
