Paul Montrone is the former chief executive officer of two successful New Hampshire-based companies: Wheelabrator Technologies Inc., and Fisher Scientific International Inc. He was named one of New Hampshire’s most powerful people by Business NH Magazine in 2003. A 1962 graduate of the University of Scranton, Montrone received a Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1965. He began his career at the Pentagon, serving in the Office of the Secretary of Defense under Robert McNamara, while a captain in the U.S. Army.

Montrone retired from Fisher Scientific in 2006 after overseeing the company’s merger with Thermo Electron. During his 15 years at the helm of Fisher, the company evolved from a North American manufacturer and distributor of biomedical and chemical supplies to a global enterprise that provides more than 600,000 products and services to laboratories around the world. Today, Montrone remains actively engaged in a variety of business pursuits through several private management and investment companies.

Montrone participated in health care policy issues at the national level for many years and served as a member of President Bill Clinton’s healthcare advisory commission. With his wife, Sandra, he has been deeply involved in local and regional philanthropic interests and has contributed his time to a variety of corporate boards and nonprofit institutions as well as establishing foundations to support New Hampshire community service organizations, horticulture, and the arts.
