Sustainable
The University of New Hampshire is nationally recognized as a sustainable learning community—a land grant, sea grant, and space grant university that unites the spirit of discovery with the challenge of sustainability in its teaching, research, and outreach missions, and in the University’s daily operations. Rather than asking our guests to travel, we are inviting them to reduce their carbon footprint by witnessing the ceremony online.
Resourceful
The University makes remarkably efficient use of its resources—human, natural, and financial. Given the economic pressures facing individuals, the University, and our larger society today, President Huddleston has chosen to make his Inauguration part of the larger, annual celebration of University Day—or UDAY. Doing so keeps additional costs to a minimum while ensuring “live” access to the day’s activities for everybody.
Responsible
The University respects the “pomp and circumstance” of academic tradition and holds in high regard those shared goals and values that unite institutions of higher education. At the same time, it recognizes the need to avoid excess and direct cherished resources toward those whom the University serves foremost—students, faculty, and the citizens of New Hampshire.
