President Huddleston:
Congratulations on making it "official". I do believe the virtual approach makes sense in the 21st Century as well as given the critical fiscal world in which the University finds itself.
As an adjunct in the Department of Hospitality at WSBE I look forward to seeing you again on December 4th at the Community based skating party at the Whit.
Our Meetings Management class, which produces that event, appreciates the time and thought provided to us from Susan and Patrice.
All the best
Carl Lindblade
PS As an adjunct It was an honor to be tasked to take the lead in
developing a new course for the Department in Sales and Revenue
Management. The course content was suggested by our Alumni Advisory
Board.
President Huddleston,
I found your speech from the Chronicle news item on your inauguration.
As someone deeply interested in universities and leadership, I found it refreshing.
Of course, I know nothing about the challenges you all see from the inside and
I’m confident that some faculty are displeased about aspects of your plans
(or is that a tautology), but there appears to be clear direction to your leadership.
I wish you long and happy success UNH.
James A. Meek, Ph.D.
Assistant to the President for Planning and Assessment
Lock Haven University
Dear President Huddleston,
I have read your inspiring and engaging inaugural address with admiration and
pride. As a UNH alumnus who knew the institution when it was much smaller
(yet had already grown well beyond the old campus created largely by college
architect Eric Huddleston), I continue to marvel at the physical and intellectual
growth of UNH over the pasty forty years.
I know that UNH serves, and actively recruits, undergraduate and graduate students
from around the world. But I like to think that the university still retains
the heart of the College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts, in which pioneer
faculty and administrators like Dean Pettee and “Dad” Henderson principally
served the youth of a smaller and more rural New Hampshire. The knowledge that
UNH was a New Hampshire institution that performed with excellence despite a
statewide culture of frugality (if not parsimony) provided me with a sense of
pride as I worked my way through college on a strict budget of $2.00 per day. Your
touching remarks concerning the priceless gift of education to young people of
limited means, and your insight into the philanthropy that is embodied in the
physical campus as well as in the endowment, will resonate with many alumni.
The Division of Historical Resources (the State Historic Preservation Office)
has been proud to work with UNH staff on several projects, including the recent
rehabilitation of Thompson Hall. I know that our office and the university
will find other ways to work together toward a still finer campus. We look
forward to being of service to the University of New Hampshire and to you.
Thank you for distilling from your time at UNH such an insightful and compelling
address.
Sincerely,
James L. Garvin, B.A. 1967
State Architectural Historian
New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources
Dear Mark,
Warmest congratulations--and all the best for a successful presidency.
Ray and Mary Helen
Dr. Huddleston,
As an aging alum, (BS '50) and former Trustee, it was a joy watching and hearing
your passion for our UNH.
Delighted to hear about the 'green' approach to energy conservation and a major
budget concern.
Wish you every success in your administration and though I am now an 80-year
old snowbird, am willing to aid in any task at my alma mater. Best, Stuart
Shaines
Mark,
UNH is very lucky to have you as their leader. As much as we enjoyed participating
in your inauguration at OWU, we applaud your choice of a virtual inauguration. What
an appropriate format to communicate your agenda for UNH's future and a great
example for all. Looks like you had a stimulating and enjoyable day for
the UNH community. We wish you the best. Love to Emma and the kids.
Illene
Dear Mark,
You just gave the best presidential address I have heard in over forty years
of life in academia. I am very grateful for your presence among us.
Sincerely,

Hi Mark,
I admire your decision to keep the inauguration consistent with the goals and
aspirations of the University. Your attention to and support of the sustainable
university are much appreciated.
Congratulations on the inauguration (finally) and I look forward to working with
you in the future.

President Huddleston,
I realize you are probably getting swamped by emails this week,
but I
just wanted to add my best wishes on the occasion of your inauguration.
You have made a very good impression on the campus community in your first
year here, and I hope that the years ahead will be fulfilling and fruitful.
And, from down in the trenches, I will try to do my part to help you make
UNH a bigger success.
Cheers,
Kevin Short
Mark,
I regret that I am not able to attend your Inaugural Ceremony today, but herewith
am sending my congratulations to you and Emma.
Please know that I am ever available to assist you in whatever way I can to effect
the vision that you have for UNH's present and future roles. I am confident that
under your leadership UNH will soar to new heights and reach its potential as
one of the best and most highly respected land grant institutions.
With warm regards,
Maxine Morse
Dear President Huddleston,
I shall be thinking of you and sending you good vibes when you'll give
your address later on today. I tried to shake your hand this
morning at this
wonderful opening breakfast event, but never made it to your
table. I am
sorry I'll have to miss the installation ceremony due to a UCIS
meeting
that cannot be rescheduled... Too many meetings, too little time!
With my heartfelt wishes for a wonderful presidency at UNH and many
years of fruitful collaboration with CIE to promote international
education,
Claire Malarte-Feldman
Mark,
I am sure this is an exciting day for you, Emma, and the kids, but it is one
that is well-deserved. I know your first year was challenging, but I am
sure the best days are ahead. My wishes for the rest of your tenure at
UNH are best summed up in a metaphor that perhaps only you and Emma will appreciate: I
hope you shoot in the 90s!
Enjoy the day.

Dear Mark: Just a brief but sincere expression of my best wishes at your
inauguration and for all the good things you are bringing to UNH. The
faculty and students are lucky to have you and I look forward to staying
on you event invitation list despite my leaving the NH legislature. Joe
Miller
Dear President Huddleston, I will not be able to attend your Installation
Ceremony, however I wish you Best Wishes during your tenure as
President.
Dr. Roger M. Beattie
Just a note to congratulate you on your inauguration on Tuesday. Thank
you for having it available on the web and for writing a terrific speech. The
challenges are just things to oversome after all and if we continue to work as
a family unit we shall succeed.
I have ben at UNH going on 12 years now and as you know I am an alum. With many
years of varied work experience behind me,I can honestly say that I come to work
EVERY day thinking I can make a difference. Working with young people
makes me stay young (at times they make me old) and I am challenged daily in
making sure that I am part of their learning process so that they have the life
skills they will need to succeed. After all when we admit them we have
the responsibility to not only educate them but also to make them understand
what it takes to succeed and be good citizens when they graduate.
Thank you for developing a strategic plan that will secure UNH's future long
beyond our tenure. If I can be a resource or of any help to you, please
don't hesitate to contact me. In the meantime maintain a sense
of humor and laugh daily. Marty and I have vowed to do that and we stick
to it. We are here way too many hours not to enioy what we do and the people
we are sharing ourselves with.
My best to Emma and the "kids"

congratulations to you and your family.

with you and everyone gathered. Instead, I am joining in virtually

Dear President Huddleston,
Congratulations on your Inauguration and best wishes to you and your family.
We appreciate your style of leadership and ability to include the University

Although my Class of 1950 is far in UNH's past, my wife and I summer
in Dover and do see the campus growth and improvements, with
lunch at the Dairy Bar and dinner at Acorns we enjoy the UNH
atmosphere and the ever busy and hurrying summer students. My
wife continues to volunteer at the UNH

long time friendships are renewed.
May you continue to expand the high quality of UNH education.

Just a quick note to say congratulations! You have some very proud alumni
here in New Jersey! In fact, our campus communications director's daughter
just transferred into UNH this fall (Emma Paxton) and so now I have someone
to share UNH memories with (who will actually listen to my bragging about
my collegiate experience).
I'll be on the stump for the U next month as well in my continued volunteer role

Dear President Huddleston,
Please accept our congratulations on the occasion of your presidential inauguration.
We are excited to see in the office of President an individual who has already
established a keen interest in fiscal responsibility and keeping the students'

Dear President Huddleston,
Congratulations and best wishes from the UNH Foundation! We are so pleased to
be working with you and look forward to the many wonderful opportunities that
lie ahead. Your leadership and vision are an inspiration to students, faculty,
staff, alumni, and friends, and we are all ready to help you take this great
University to the next level.

Dear Mark,
I don’t understand why it’s taken this long for this ceremony to
take place. Is that NH caution or academic tradition? I will be a virtual attendee.
I applaud your innovative and energy-efficient initiative. It is of a piece with
the great work that UNH is doing on the energy front. The university is setting
a good example and standard for the state to follow, albeit from quite a distance
behind.
As Ed McKay and Cathy know, I do what I can to support UNH in the senate.

President Huddleston,

It was my pleasure meeting you at Thayer Hotel at West Point this past
weekend. I was one of the group in the private room and had asked
that you and your wife join us for dinner. I offer you my congratulations
on becoming our President. I sincerely hope you will be with the
University for a long long time. We need a President who is
not making a stop on the way to bigger and better things. UNH is
a rough cut gem in the State of New Hampshire and it needs someone to
facet those very rough edges. Good luck and God speed in your new
position. I live in Williamsburg Va and I feel that in 2009
The Cats may be playing William and Mary. I do hope we, with my
group can get together with you at that time.

Dr. Huddleston, my wife, Joan (KSC '69) and I had the pleasure of hearing

Dear President Huddleston,
Congratulations on your appointment as President of the University of New Hampshire!
UNH is a very special place for me. In spite of never ever having set foot on
the gorgeous campus of the university, I got my Graduate Certificate in Industrial
Statistics from the University of New Hampshire in 2006. Thanks to the wonderful
Far View Program, I was able to take all my courses over the Internet from my
home in Puerto Rico, miles away in the Caribbean! I have done my research and
this Certificate Program is unique in the nation. Maybe the more important feature
of the Program is that you have instructors who are very knowledgeable in their
areas of expertise and who really care about their students.....the perfect combination!
Dr. Ken Chamberlin was also very helpful.
Success in all your endeavours!
God bless you and all your dear ones!

President Huddleston,
Let me congratulate on your inauguration, from what I have read
your priorities are in the right place and you are uniquely suited to
bring the University to its next level. As a UNH alumnus and now parent of a UNH student,
I am pleased to see the social responsible way you have chosen to incorporate
your inauguration into UDay. The agenda you have set is thought provoking. I
hope that you find support within our state to deal with the challenges you
will face & to obtain the resources the university needs to advance its
position as a premier place for higher education. Enjoy your day it should
be memorable and fun.
Carpe Diem.

just another sleepy state university. My wife ('64) and I ('62)

Dear President Huddleston:
You and I have met several times and let me assure you, that I truly believe you are exceptional in your new position as President of the University of New Hampshire. The choice to hire you was an excellent one. Although you have the unpleasant task of making cutbacks during this economic time which include a hiring freeze (one that effected me as well), you are true to the U - I like the sound of that.
Anyway, welcome President Huddleston. I’m pleased to have met you.

Dear Mark---

on your innovative, unique and “just-plain-superb” day of events
formally inaugurating you as President of the University of New Hampshire. The
manner in which you have selected to be inaugurated is remarkable and one more
piece of evidence of the luck those of us who are part of the University greater
community have in your being “our” President. Not only does your
style and preference for inauguration reflect brilliance, but economic and environmental
sense. Once more you are putting UNH on the greater maps of colleges and
Universities.
Thank you and your family
