Statement from UNH President Ann Weaver Hart regarding the expected protests around the consecration of NH Episcopal Bishop-elect Gene Robinson on Sunday, November 2, 2003 at The Whittemore Center in Durham
The University of New Hampshire provides a safe and supportive climate for all members of the community. The University is also a place where the open exchange of ideas and viewpoints is valued and encouraged. While we encourage people to exercise their first amendment right of free speech, the University condemns any form of hatred directed toward individuals or groups on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, veteran’s status or marital status.
The safety of everyone in Durham this Sunday is of paramount importance. We expect everyone attending and observing this event to be peaceful and lawful. At UNH, respect and dignity of all individuals are core values.
