Thinking
about Law School?
How do I begin?
The
following steps may help you to investigate your interest in
law:
- research realities related to a law degree--possible career
choices, anticipated debt, lifestyle choices, etc.
- visit the Law
School Locator Table created by Boston College, to get an idea of
places you should apply
- prepare to take the entrance exam, LSAT, and take it only once
- meet with Paula DiNardo, the UNH Prelaw
Advisor, to discuss options and choices (603.862.3485)
- register with the UNH Prelaw Committee
- visit any law school you can & just walk around and chat!
The Law School Application Process
The
UNH Prelaw Advising Office recommends the
Law
School Admissions Council
on-line common application
form. Start by viewing the
LSAC
Application
Process demonstration video. You must register and open an
account with LSAC to apply,
but you may conduct research on their website beforehand without
committing to an account. By completing this one application
through LSAC, you don't have to
repeat all the mundane questions--one application that can be sent to
all the schools you designate. Letters of recommendation can
also be sent through the service, and different letters can be sent to
each
school so that you can ask faculty to personalize them. The
completed law school application consists of the following:
- LSAT score (plan to take the test ONCE, and
prepare WELL)
- Transcripts
from all colleges/universities
attended, with overall GPA (LSAC recalculates GPA!)
- Letters
of Recommendation (2-4 from PhD
faculty, preferrably), sent directly to LSAC
- Dean's Office certification (from your
UNH school/college Dean's office)
- Your Resume (get help from UACC
Career Counselors)
- Your
Personal Statement and any supplemental documents (PDF formats
preferred)
- All required application fees
What
major? What classes?

Association (ABA) and the
UNH Pre-Law Committee have to say on this subject.
