About Us

The Dialectic is the annual University of New Hampshire's undergraduate philosophy journal. Founded in 1969 under the title The Monad and known in later years as Dasein ('89) and Zeitgeist ('92), the journal has traditionally published papers, poetry, artwork, and photographs. Currently the journal publishes philosophical essays on all topics, and as of the 2009 edition has moved to an exclusively online publication. The Dialectic accepts and encourages submissions from any university, and it is the journal’s goal to promote an international philosophical dialogue amongst undergraduates.

Submissions, inquires and any thoughts or comments on the current issue’s essays should be sent to unh.dialectic@gmail.com. We are also developing an email list so please let us know if you would like to be added.

The Question of Intention-Dependent Objects
A Poem by Jonathan L. Meadows

People left: only four,
On one elevator
SNAP! …speeding to the floor
Their lives shut like a door
"Elevators" – no more?

To our many contributors:

We can’t even begin to say how grateful we are to the Philosophy Department and its various students and members of staff for making this publication possible. Thank-you!

Special thanks to:

Our amazing administrative assistant Alexis Roberson. Alexis has worked countless hours on behalf of The Dialectic and our many other philosophical groups, events, & etc. None of this would have been possible without you.

Our inspiring and perspicacious advisor: Professor Nick Smith. You have moved each and every one of us to develop and strive for our philosophical goals. We are eternally grateful.
