Obtaining the Scale
This empathy scale, the Measure of Emotional Empathy, was used in Mayer, Caruso, & Salovey, 1999, and is reprinted here (PDF opens in new window).
The scale measures five related emotionally-relevant forms of empathy including:
- emotional suffering
- positive sharing
- crying
- emotional attention
- feeling for others
- emotional contagion
and a total scale score.
