for band and orchestra students finishing grades 4-6

2013 Session  July 8-12, 2013

 

SYMS Prep Division is a day camp offered at the University of New Hampshire for current band and orchestra students exiting grades 4, 5, and 6. Five days of rehearsals, classes, and lunch are provided each day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Drop-off and pick-up will occur at the door to the Paul Creative Arts Center, 30 Academic Way on the UNH campus in Durham.

Final performances are given in the Strafford Room of the Memorial Union Building (the MUB) on campus. Students will be required to submit a simple health form that includes insurance information and permission to treat.

Tuition is $200. Each additional child from the same family will cost $125. A $50 non-refundable deposit is due by July 1, 2013. Students will be required to submit a simple health form that includes insurance information and permission to treat.

Faculty and Staff

SYMS Prep provides an introductory level experience similar to that cherished by middle and high school music students for the past 65 years. Rehearsals and classes are taught by certified, experienced local music teachers and UNH music majors.

Sarah DePorter - Band and Theory: Sarah teaches band to grades 4-8 and elementary general music in Farmington, NH. She holds an MM in Flute Performance from Ohio State University and a BM in Music Education from UNH. 

Eric Kobb - Band and Advanced Band: Eric is Band Director and general music teacher at the Cooperative Middle School in Stratham, NH. A graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Mr. Kobb is Executive Director of the New Hampshire Music Teachers Association and the New Hampshire Band Director's Association. 

Sarah Kuhn - Director and Band: Sarah teaches beginning band at Mast Way School and Moharimet School, as well as general music at Moharimet for the Oyster River School District. She holds degrees in Music Education from UNH with a concentration in Horn Performance. 

Amanda Russell - Chorus and Musical Theater: Amanda teaches beginning band for students in grades 4-6, and general music and chorus at Rollinsford Grade School in Rollinsford, NH. Her degrees are from UNH with a concentration in Vocal Performance. 

Sally Wituszynski - Orchestra and Strings: Sally teaches strings and directs the orchestras at Berwick Academy and Tri-City Christian Academy, and is the Master Teacher for the String Project at UNH. She earned a BM in Viola Performance from New England Conservatory of Music, and a MM in Music Education from UNH.
