Program
Students attend the University of Delaware program in Paris, where they take one French language course and three to four other courses taught in English on French topics (Art History, History, Literature, Political Science). Students will take a placement exam to determine which language class they will take, ranging from intermediate (FREN 503) to advanced (FREN 632). They earn a full semester’s credit for the four courses (16 credit hours). Students receive Gen. Ed. 5 credit (Foreign Culture) and may apply two of these courses toward the French minor. Credit for a student’s major or for Gen. Ed. categories 4, 7, and 8 may also be available by petition.

Housing
Students are housed with local families. Housing includes breakfast daily, and dinner Monday through Friday. Other meals (all lunches, plus dinners on weekends) are the responsibility of students. Some weekend meals are included in the program trips to cultural sites outside Paris.
Admission Requirements
Students must have completed FREN 501 (or high school equivalent) with a grade of B- or better before they leave for Paris. Students must have sophomore status when they leave for Paris, an overall GPA of 2.5, a declared major, and no disciplinary record. Students who will take 503 or 504 will pre-register for FREN 582 for the semester; those who will take 631 or 632 pre-register for FREN 682 for the semester.
Application Deadlines
Applications will be accepted beginning September 15 until October 25, for the following Spring semester. Students are urged to apply as early as possible in the semester.
Travel and Insurance
The Program Fee includes roundtrip airfare from Philadelphia to Paris. Students must make their own travel arrangements between their home and Philadelphia. Normally, the monthly Paris metro pass is included in the Program Fee. Occasional weekend trips to visit cultural sites outside Paris (Versailles, Chartres, Mont St. Michel, for examples) are included in the Program Fee. Students must provide proof of insurance coverage while abroad; the international student I.D. card provides some medical insurance coverage.
Fees and Expenses
Students pay a Program Fee that includes tuition, housing, partial board (see "HOUSING" above), transportation, and some field trips. There are two rates, one "in-state" and one "out-of-state," and costs are normally about the same as a regular semester of UNH tuition and on-campus room & board, plus a $100 administrative fee. Additional expenses include lunches and dinners on weekends, personal items and miscellaneous living costs.
