UNH Parent's Association Endowment Scholarship Fund Student/Parent Information and Application

Dear Student and Parents,

This information packet has been prepared to assist you in applying for the UNH Parent's Association Endowment Scholarship. The UNH Parents Association Endowment Scholarship program was created to assist those students whose FAFSA Effective Family Contribution (EFC) is too high to qualify for Federal financial aid programs but not high enough to cover the cost of a university education without assistance.

These scholarships are awarded each year and are designed to aid students who have demonstrated financial need and academic achievement, specifically students who are making financial contributions to their education through employment and/or who are involved in community service projects on a regular basis. Below you will find a Student Application Form and a Faculty Recommendation Form. It is the responsibility of the student to insure that all required documentation is obtained and submitted with their application by the due date.

Since this scholarship is based primarily on financial need, the 2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must also be completed and received by the federal processor prior to March 1; the Effective Family Contribution (EFC) criteria establishing financial need for this scholarship are between $5000 and $10,000.
For more information on the FAFSA application contact the UNH Financial Aid Office, 603-862-3600 or email: financial.aid@unh.edu.

Scholarship Criteria and application checklist: the starred items (*) items below, are the only documents that should be submitted by the student. The application & all documentation is due at the Parents Association Office by March 1, 2010. If you have questions about the Parents Association application, please call 603-862-4370.
  1. * Employment Verification Letter and /or Community Service Verification Letter.
  2. * Personal Background information statement. (Maximum of 1 page double spaced).
  3. * Scholarship Application.
  4. Required Faculty Recommendation - Faculty members will forward their recommendations directly to Janet Cass, UNH Parent's Association Office at the above address.

Additional requirements / criteria:

Make sure that your FAFSA Forms are filed with federal processor in advance of March 1;
You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8.

The Parents Association made a commitment in the fall of 1999 to UNH students to support higher education by raising $500,000 to establish this scholarship fund. The Parents Association began to fund scholarships in 2001 and has awarded funds to 45 students since then. Typical awards are about $3,000 for each student. Funds available for these scholarships are based on the interest accrued by the basic scholarship fund.

We realize that our students come from all walks of life and are involved in a variety of activities that promote learning, self-awareness and understanding. Yet, financial need often hinders some of the best opportunities for learning. Therefore, it is our intent that through this scholarship we will be able to assist you in reaching your personal and professional goals. We consider it an honor and a privilege to help you achieve success as you assume your leadership responsibilities as a citizen in your community. Best wishes!

Sincerely,
The UNH Parent's Association
