The UNH Parents Fund

Frequently Asked Questions about the Parents Fund

Where does money for the Parents Fund come from?

The Parents Fund is derived from voluntary contributions from UNH parents. The optional $45.00 for the Parents Fund is requested through the Fall Tuition Billing.

How are these funds used?

These contributions are used to provide parents with informational resources such as the Parents Resource Guide, 3 newsletters mailed home each year aimed at keeping parents up to date about UNH and its many opportunities for their students. Much of the money raised is used in our Grant Programs, which are given to student groups, faculty and the administration as enhancement grants. The Parents Fund is used to put on Family Weekend each year so that parents get a chance to experience UNH with their student. The Parents Fund also allows the Parents Association to be a self funded office.

What sort of Grant Programs are awarded funding from the Parents Fund?

Over $180,000 yearly is used for the grant programs to provide opportunities for students. These programs provide a wide range of opportunities for students, typical grant awards in any given year range from Vans for Campus Recreation for use by students involved in club sports; funding for the Choices Matter DVD mailed to parents each year; funding to support the Writers Series sponsored by the UNH English Dept.; to transportation expenses for students doing community service projects during spring break; Sports Equipment for Campus Recreation such as kayaks, cross country skis and skates for student use at low rental rates.
