Bookmark this site and check back often for more events –this list will be updated weekly. There is no registration for this weekend, just plan to come when it’s convenient and participate in the events your family is interested in. Some events require tickets – see the individual listings if any tickets need to be purchased.

Friday, October 26:

8:30am to 5:00pm

UNH Bookstore open. Gifts, books, dorm room essentials, snacks, etc. available. Located on level 1 of the MUB.

8:30am to 4:00pm

UNH Computer Store open. Now in its new location in the MUB, level 2 across from the Granite Square Station mail boxes.

University Museum –at Dimond Library - New exhibit, Up Close and Personal: A Look at Presidential Politics in New Hampshire. Dimond Library, level 1.

5:00pm to 8:00pm

Special Family Weekend Dinner for Families. Dine at the fabulous Holloway Commons in the center of the UNH campus with your student. $8.00 per person, students can use their meal plans.

UNH Men’s Hockey Game - UNH vs. Colorado College – A special block of tickets for this game are available thru the MUB ticket office. Call 603-862-2290, Monday thru Friday 10 am to 4 pm. Fulltime undergraduate students can pick up their free hockey ticket with their valid UNH Student ID at the Whittemore Center Box Office between 10 am and 6 pm on Monday, Oct. 22 and Tuesday. Oct. 23.

When this special block of tickets mentioned above are sold out – any other Hockey Tickets for this game go on sale on Wednesday, Oct. 24th at the Whittemore Ticket Counter or by calling 866-WILDCAT (866-945-3228).

Family Weekend Concert, UNH Jazz Bands and Combos, David Seiler and Thomas Palance, directing. $8 general admission; $6 students & seniors. Tickets available at the MUB Ticket Office, (603) 862-2290, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and at the door one hour prior to performance. UNH Observatory Viewing Session The University of New Hampshire Physics Department's Observatory session. See the night skies up close and personal.

The observatory (a silo shaped building) is located at UNH in Durham near the Old Durham Reservoir. To view a slideshow-form of the directions, click either the East or the West text located below. From the West will guide you as if you are coming from the West and getting off of Route 4 onto Main St. From the East will guide you if you are coming from campus and heading West towards 155A and Route 4. If you would rather just have the text, click one of the links labeled below each. Bring binoculars if you have them, and dress appropriately, preferably in layers.

Saturday, October 27:

8:00am to 12 noon

Visit the Thompson School Greenhouses. They have a large assortment of fall outdoor Mums for sale. All plant material is produced by the students within the Thompson School Horticulture Program.

10am to 5:00pm

UNH Bookstore open. Gifts, books, dorm room essentials, snacks, etc. available. Located on level 2 of the MUB.

11:00am to 2:00pm

Parents Association sponsored University Picnic. The Picnic will be held at the Whittemore Center and the outdoor concourse. Click here for the menu.

All tickets for the picnic are $6.00 each and can be purchased through the MUB Ticket Office – call 603-862-2290, Monday thru Friday 10 am to 4 pm.

Picnic Tickets are also available ONLINE – click here for link. (there is an additional cost of $1.00 per ticket to order online.)

Students will need tickets as UNH meal plans can’t be accepted for this event. Purchase your tickets by Friday, Oct. 19th. Click here for menu. No refunds, No exchanges.

Limited number of tickets available on day of event – come to Whittemore Center Lobby early to check for available tickets.

UNH Alumni Association Marketplace will be onsite at the picnic selling UNH logo clothing etc. (All Alumni Association purchases benefit alumni events, programs and student scholarships.)

Get your family’s photo taken with the new UNH Wildcat! Get Free Photo Buttons – photos taken at the newly-installed Wildcat Sculpture in front of the Whittemore Center. Don’t miss this fun opportunity to get your photos taken with your friends and family – all get their very own photo button!

Football Game, UNH vs. Univ. of Rhode Island. Tickets can be purchased on game day at the Field House, Cowell Stadium. For tickets, call 1-866-WILDCAT (945-3228) Tickets can also be bought online at: www.unhwildcats.com or at the Whittemore Center in person between now and game day.

UNH Art Gallery will be open featuring a new show; Shadow and Memory: Ellis Island’s Un-restored Buildings: The photographs of Christopher Barnes. Maine resident Barnes first visited Ellis Island in the 1980’s and has been documenting the 30 buildings which were abandoned in 1954. Interspersed among the contemporary photographs are historic images of the hospital in operation. Shadow and Memory was organized and loaned to UNH by Save Ellis Island, Inc. It is presented in Durham with generous support from Thomas W. Haas.

Free Performance - The Evasons, world renowned psychic mentalist duo. Fast paced stage show featuring Mind Reading, Levitation, Prediction, Memory & Telekenesis, Come early to make sure you get a seat at this popular performance! Granite State Room at the MUB.

Acappella Show – There will be 5 UNH Acappella groups singing: The Notables, the NH Gentlemen, Maiden Harmony, Alabaster Blue & Not Too Sharp. Tickets available thru the MUB ticket office (603-862-2290) and at the door, $5.00 for non students, $3.00 for students. Limited seating. Murkland Hall, room 115.

UNH Ski Swap at the UNH Field House. Buy or sell new or good used equipment. The UNH Ski Team coordinates this event, they will have skis, snowboards, bindings, boots, skates, clothing, gear for sale. Vendors will also be there and there will be raffles. Hillel Bagel Brunch at the Rockingham Lounge, MUB. All are welcome! Free for students and their families. Sponsored by Hillel and the Student Activity Fee. No RSVP needed.

Pumpkin Decorating for all ages. Decorate a real or paper pumpkin to take home with you! All materials are provided, bring your creativity. Location to be announced. (Note – this is not a pumpkin carving session.)

Open House for Parents Association Lecture Hall at Kingsbury Hall. The Parents Association Lecture Hall is the latest Fund-Raising initiative of the Parents Association to assist UNH in completing this important renovation. Refreshments will be served.

Men’s Soccer at Lewis Field. UNH vs. Hartford.

Women’s Volleyball in Lundholm Gym. UNH vs. Binghamton. As part of this match, the team will be sponsoring a fundraiser: Dig for the Cure. All proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research organization. Wear pink to show your support, watch a great volleyball match and help the team in their efforts to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer!

New Hampshire Authors’ Series presents David Carroll, a noted nature writer from Warner, NH. David Carroll is a author and illustrator of 3 widely acclaimed natural histories; The Year of the Turtle, Trout Reflections; Swampwalker’s Journal. David Caroll is a graduate of the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts and Tufts University. Join us for this exciting discussion. Dimond Library.

Family Weekend Parking Information

Free parking is available in commuter or faculty/staff lots (listed below) WEEKDAYS after 6:00pm until 6:30am and ALL DAY ON WEEKENDS.

These lots are: Commuter lots: G1 Lot, M Lot, Mast Lot 2, and Faculty/Staff lots: Lots: B, D, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, N, O, P, R, S, U, V, W & Y. ( Lot A - Charges $5.00 for parking on Saturday, Oct. 27 due to the football game, parking is free after 2pm that day. )

If you are planning to arrive on campus before Friday at 6:00pm, you must use parking spaces with a parking meter, park in parking lot C for $1.00 per hour or get a parking permit from the Visitor Information Center at (603) 862-1010 or risk getting a ticket. All campus metered spaces are free after 6:00pm on weekdays.

Very Important Parking Information:

Visitors are NOT allowed to park at designated Resident Lots (All Residence Halls, Gables, Woodside, E/E1, West Edge, Mast Road lots). These lots are sold to capacity, have a strict 24/7 permit policy and cannot accommodate visitors. Violators risk ticketing and towing, so please beware! You may not use these lots even for short-term visits, loading/unloading, etc. Visitors to Gables, Woodside, and Forest Park must obtain visitor permits at the complex manager's offices and must park in the designated spaces.

Special Needs

Any visitor needing the use of a wheelchair on campus can rent a chair through Northeast Passage for $15/day. Call Northeast Passage at (603) 862-0070 located on the ground floor of Hewitt Hall Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm.

Handicap Parking There are 100 handicap parking spaces scattered all over campus. To use them, you must display a current Handicap Permit (state placard) AND a UNH-issued permit (student, faculty/staff, visitor, temp, or whatever is appropriate). UNH does not issue handicap permits. State-issued handicap plates and/or placards are required in all UNH handicap spaces. Use of state-issued plates or placards requires an accompanying UNH-issued permit appropriate for the lot where the person parks.
