$1,500.00 – Awarded to the MUB for the Current Issues Lecture Series to bring Mark Zupan to the UNH campus for a lecture. Mark Zupan is the star of the award-winning documentary Murderball which is about quadriplegics who play full-contact rugby overcoming obstacles to compete in the Paraplegic Games in Athens, Greece. Mark Zupan is the Captain and Leader of Team USA. Mark’s lecture will be free to UNH students, and will be open to up to 700 people. This proposal was given partial funding, complimenting additional funds contributed by the Memorial Union Building and Health Education and Promotion.
$1,500.00 – Awarded to the UNH Chamber Singers to support the creation of a CD. The CD will be called Resonance 2, and will include the works of UNH composers Christopher Kies and Lorri Dobbins, American icon Morten Lauridsen, and Australian composers Clare Maclean and Ross Edwards. The CD will be used as publicity material for the group’s proposed tour of Australia. This proposal was given partial funding, complimenting additional funds contributed by the UNH Music Department.
$2,330.00 – Awarded to the Thompson School for student lounge furniture for Barton Hall. The furniture will be placed in the new lounge in Barton Hall, which is used for individual studying, working on group projects, relaxation between classes, and general leisure. Approximately 400 students will benefit from this addition to Barton Hall’s lounge. This proposal was given full funding.
$2,250.00 – Awarded to the Undergraduate Research Conference (URC) in support of the student excellence highlighted within the URC, three presenting students will be selected to receive a $750.00 scholarship to attend a professional conference to present their research. This proposal was given full funding, to compliment additional funds contributed by VP Research & Public Service, various academic departments, and various UNH colleges/schools for similar awards.
$2,500.00 – Awarded to the UNH Wind Symphony for the production of a CD of the music of Dr. Mark Camphouse. Dr. Camphouse will direct the UNH Wind Symphony in playing his works, and will work with them on technique and sound. Their performance will then be recorded onto a CD. This project will give students the benefit of working with a “real, live” composer, and the opportunity to be a part of a recording experience that reflects the realities of professional recording. This proposal was given full funding, complimenting additional funds contributed by the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s Office, and the UNH Music Department.
$2,400.00 – Awarded to the UNH aerialists to support the purchase of new aerial equipment. The equipment will replace or upgrade old equipment, and some new safety equipment will also be purchased. Harnesses and bungee cord will be bought for improved safety. This grant will impact over 2500 people through performances. This proposal was given full funding.
$2,500.00 – Awarded to the Office of Presidential Events and Programs to support the “Guidelines for Graduates Series: Preparation for the Real World”. The program will feature a Commencement Fair including topics related to job hunting, careers, handling finances other topics relevant to Commencement, or information helpful for life after graduation. This program will be open to Juniors and Seniors, approximately 800 students are expected to attend. This proposal was given full funding.
$2,500.00 – Awarded to the UNH Robotics Club as seed money to support the creation of a Robotics Resource Center at UNH. LEGO Mindstorms kits, Vex kits, and tools will be purchased and be available for the robotics club to use for the Introduction to Robotics and Girls Connect Workshops and various other workshops and competitions, that are currently scheduled and mentored by UNH students. This proposal was given full funding, to supplement additional contributions by an ASME Diversity Grant and the Robotics Club.
$2,500.00 – Awarded to Campus Recreation for use by the Judo Club. The grant will support the purchase of a new set of competition tatami mats for the Judo Club. These mats will be used by the growing number of Judo Club members. Having these mats will enable the club to host Judo tournaments. This proposal was given full support, to supplement additional contributions raised by the club.
$1,985.00 – Awarded to Campus Recreation for use by the Men’s Crew Team. The grant will support the repair and upgrade of the seasonal dock system at Jackson’s Landing. Nearly 20 years old, the dock will now receive much needed upgrades and care. New dock bumpers and connecting edge pieces will be purchased and installed to ensure the safety of dock users. These repairs will directly affect all the crew team members and public dock users. This proposal was given full funding, to supplement additional funds contributed by rent-a-rower and alumni donations.
$1,000.00 – Awarded to Campus Recreation to be used by the Sailing Team. The grant will support the purchase of new power hand tools. These tools will be used for maintaining and repairing the sail boats, boathouse, and sail shed that the team uses at Mendum’s Pond. This proposal was given full funding, to supplement additional contributions by rent-a-sailor work weekend and alumni donations.
$2,496.00 – Awarded to the UNH Police Department to support the continued Violence Against Women Media Campaign for the UNH campus. The project will seek to expand the UNH community’s understanding of the range of behaviors that make up violence against women. The campaign will edit and distribute four different posters that convey that everyone has a role to play in stopping violence against women. This proposal was given full funding.
$780.00 – Awarded to the Nicaragua Community Action group to support the community service trip to Nicaragua during spring break. The group plans to send 14 people to Nicaragua on a community service trip delivering clothing, toys and school supplies and learn more about the Nicaraguan culture. The travelers will hold discussion sessions at UNH upon returning from their trip. This proposal was given partial funding, to supplement additional funds raised by this group.
$1,200.00 – Awarded to the Catholic Student Organization to support the community service trip to Honduras. The CSO will send 14 students to Honduras over spring break to assist in reforestation, cultural connections, and service work. The students will work with Project Eden Inc., in the community of San Francisco de la Paz in Honduras. The UNH community will be invited to learn about the trip through fundraising, a speaker series, and post-trip presentations. This proposal was given partial funding, to supplement additional funds raised by this group.
