P2 Internship Program - Previous Internships

Recognizing that pollution prevention opportunities can occur in a variety of business sectors, the NHP2P is soliciting internship sponsors from a range of business and industry.  It is our intent for interns to address not simply the disposal/treatment of waste, but to look upstream in the system, identify the source of the waste, and consider ways to reduce or eliminate its creation.  The P2I projects in previous summers included: 

• Prevention of VOC Pollution with Ferrofluid Seals;

• Air Emission Calculations for NHRTAP;

• Substitution of Chlorinated Solvents;

• Evaluation of Stripping Process Baths;

• Formaldehyde-free Through-Hole Plating and Solvent Substitution;

• Feasibility Study: Nitric Acid Etching Bath Recovery;

• Reduction and Recycling of “Prepreg” Scrap Material;

• Chemical Inventory Program Consolidation;

• Mercury Reduction in Hospitals;

• Detailed Waste Stream Analysis;

• P2 in the Surface Mount Technology Process;

• Aqueous Cleaning System Optimization;

• Water and Dye Recovery and Reuse;

• P2 and EPCRA at Federal Facilities;

• Copper Dust Recycling;

• Wastewater Reduction in Paper Production;

• Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan;

• Compliance and P2 in Metal Finishing

• Town of Durham/UNH Campus Solid Waste Management and Integration

• Electroplating Copper for use in a horizontal process

• Reduction of Hazardous Waste in Fluid Ink Manufacturing

• Product take-back and sustainable Contract management

• Strategic Goal Program (SGP) for Metal Finishing Industries

• EMS for Small Businesses

• Data Collection and Compilation of EPA’s 2003 Hospital Assessment Tool 

• New Hampshire Army National Guard (NHARNG), Pollution Prevention Plan in response to Executive Order 13148.

• Solid Waste Recycling
