Oxfam UNH became an official student organization at the University of New Hampshire in the fall of 2007, but the organization really began one year prior when a group of dedicated students formed a committee to plan an Oxfam Hunger Banquet. The 2007 Hunger Banquet was a huge success, bringing knowledge and greater understanding to over 250 participants. This success motivated students to form Oxfam UNH with the hope of continuing the efforts that began with this first event.

Based on the model created by Oxfam International and Oxfam America, Oxfam UNH is dedicated to the issues of hunger, poverty, and social injustice. The group strives to create an awareness of global hunger, poverty, and social injustice on the UNH campus and within the larger Durham community. We are working to create a constituency of active, compassionate students and community members who use their voices to create effective global change.

The first Oxfam Hunger Banquet required the work of a variety of students and the help of many other student organizations. This model of collaborative efforts to create a better campus, community, and world is one of Oxfam UNH's main principles and can be seen in all of our events.
