O. Hazardous Waste

The UNH Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) is responsible for ensuring that all regulated wastes are managed in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. OEHS personnel provide technical assistance and guidance to members of the University community on proper handling, storage, and disposal of wastes generated from research, teaching, maintenance, and construction activities. Safe, efficient, and environmentally sound management of chemical, universal, radioactive and biohazardous wastes from generation to disposal is of primary importance to UNH.

  • Require all laboratory personnel to adhere to the requirements listed in the UNH Hazardous Waste Management Plan.
  • Require all laboratory personnel who handle or generate hazardous waste to receive Hazardous Waste Management Training through UNH Blackboard .
  • Inspect locations in the laboratory where hazardous waste is stored to ensure it is being managed properly.
  • Designate a laboratory contact to help resolve problems that may arise due to the improper storage, use, labeling, and disposal of hazardous waste.
