I. Openness in Research

PIs/PDs are responsible for being alert to any language in proposals, award notices or other documentation related to a sponsored project that limits the open exchange of research outcomes. UNH values "the open discovery and exchange of knowledge through publication, education, and public outreach" (UNH.VIII.B.1.1), and, "the open exchange of research and scholarly information both within UNH and between UNH and the public" (UNH.VIII.A.1.1).

UNH will not accept funding for classified research.

UNH normally does not accept restrictions that would limit access to UNH research and scholarly activities. If the chief UNH research official approves a PI/PD request to accept such a restriction, the PI/PD must honor the restriction.

For more information, refer to UNH policies on Openness in Research and Classified Work.

PIs/PDs should contact their OSR GCA with any concerns about proposals or awards that restrict the open exchange of knowledge, such as publication restrictions.
