Results from Survey on Research Climate at UNH
Over the last two years, the Faculty Senate subcommittee on Research and Public Service has led a discussion on the research climate at UNH, including research administration. One outcome of this discussion was the design and distribution of a detailed survey containing questions in 5 general areas. Over 500 members of the UNH community responded to the on-line survey, making this the most complete and extensive sampling of attitude and opinions on this topic.
The results of the survey, which was carried out the Survey Center on campus, have been summarized and are made available here. The data are presented in Excel spreadsheet format, so that anyone can analyze or extract the information. This summary is itself extracted from a much larger set of cross-tabulation of results and can be obtained from this office. The only difference between the larger set of tables and the one presented here is the absence of cross-tabbed information under each question. The summaries for all respondents are here.
The results from this survey have already proven useful. The barriers to research are clearly described, including mainly faculty time to pursue research and scholarship, and support for graduate students. That information was used in the design of the President’s Excellence Initiative competition carried out this spring.
Other results will inform decisions on how we initiatiate and support research and scholarship on campus for many years.
Thank you to all who responded to the survey.
