Review College of Health and Human Services programs. Each program has been designed to enable students to acquire the basic knowledge and skills needed to practice their chosen professions and at the same time obtain a broad cultural background in the humanities and social sciences. Students may also combine a major with the dual major in international affairs. Consult an IA adviser at Orientation.

Choosing First-Semester Courses

Recommended first-semester courses for each of the College of Health and Human Services programs are listed below. In most cases, one or two Discovery Program (university core curriculum) courses  are included. Because the availability of English 401 is limited to half the first-year class first semester, make sure that you have chosen alternative Discovery courses. Review the current Undergraduate Catalog, course descriptions, Discovery categories, and writing requirements.

Choose four courses in which you are interested. List these four courses, along with the recommended courses for your major, on the worksheet on the next page. Your choice of Discovery courses will be made from this list at Orientation in consultation with an academic adviser.  A normal course load is 16 credits, usually consisting of four 4-credit courses. First-year students should take courses numbered in the 400s and 500s.

You need tocomplete and print out your 12 CHHS worksheet, prior to attending June Orientation.

For those taking, French or Spanish in the fall, you must take the French and Spanish placement test before your orientation session. your advisor will have the result at orientation.
