EXPLORE YOUR LEADERSHIP IN A MULTICULTURAL CONTEXT!

The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) encourages undergraduate students to apply to attend our annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Summit. This retreat is FREE to all full-time undergraduates who are interested in gaining a better understanding of diversity and working toward social justice on the UNH campus and beyond! The MLK Summit is an excellent opportunity for students to create a greater sense of community, explore critical issues related to social inequality, and expand their own potential for multicultural leadership in a safe environment that promotes growth, reflection, and honest dialogue.

WHAT IS THE MLK LEADERSHIP SUMMIT?

Named for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the MLK Leadership Summit is a three day leadership-development institute for students. The Summit is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) with additional support from other offices across campus. Participants in the MLK Summit will have the opportunity to examine and develop their own leadership potential within a multicultural context.

The MLK Summit can help expand your understanding of diversity, which includes but is not limited to:
ability
age
body-type
ethnicity
education
gender identity
geographic origin
national origin
race
religious traditions
sexual orientation
socio-economic class
veteran status

You are invited to explore these critical issues in a safe environment that promotes growth, reflection and honest dialogue. You will also have the opportunity to explore and further develop your leadership skills within a diverse community.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO ATTEND?

currently enrolled full-time undergraduate students at UNH,
who have not attended the MLK Summit before,
current/future student leaders interested in diversity, multiculturalism or social justice issues,
those interested in learning more about themselves and others,
available and willing to commit to a Friday evening through Sunday evening on-campus retreat.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

At the MLK Summit, you will take part in activities that will help you gain a deeper understanding of your own culture and experience, as well as break down barriers to cross-cultural communication.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

Dress for the MLK Summit is casual. Please bring:

Comfortable, warm clothes
Slippers or warm socks, if you want to kick your shoes off and relax even further.
Water bottle, or reusable cup

ACCOMMODATIONS, TRANSPORT AND MEALS

February weather in New Hampshire is very unpredictable, so the MLK Summit is held on campus and we try to create a retreat-feel right here!! Our staff ensures that we are in a safe comfortable space optimally situated to host a diverse community of learners. This year's Summit will take place at the Squamscott room in Holloway Commons (located on the same floor as the student ID office).

We will be dining in Holloway Commons, and meals will be free of charge for students without meal plans. Snacks, drinks, coffee and other treats will be provided throughout the weekend for all students.
