STAYING
CONNECTED
OMSA welcomes the opportunity to develop and maintain relationships with UNH alumni of color/LGBT alumni. It's easy for alumni to stay involved in the life of the UNH community. Here are just a few ways for you to get and stay in touch, to give back, to make a difference in the lives of current UNH students. Celebrate our community. Join us in celebrating the accomplishments of UNH's students of color and LGBT students by participating in campus traditions like the UNITY Reception, the Kidder Awards/Pancake Breakfast and the Martin Luther King Celebration. Visit UNH's Diversity Initiatives website for up-to-the-minute information about upcoming programs. Each one, reach one. There are few ways to help UNH that as as satisfying as being a mentor to a current student. The University Advising and Career Center sponsors the Career Mentor Network for the use of UNH alumni and students. It's an invaluable resource for students in needs of career advice and information. Mentors offer to share their expertise in a particular career field, and students hear directly from someone in their field of interest. There is a particular need for mentors of color and LGBT mentors, although everyone is welcome to participate. You can register as a Career Mentor with the Network by contacting at bethany.cooper@unh.edu or phone at 603/862.2029. Give back. Generous support from UNH alumni helps the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs provide a superlative learning environment for students of color and/or LGBT students. OMSA leverages institutional resources with private funds to put students in the path of opportunity and growth. In the past, gifts from UNH alumni and friends have been used to sponsor educational and cultural events; fund student delegates to regional and national conferences; award scholarships to students and support OMSA's annual Martin Luther King Leadership Summit. Please consider supporting OMSA's work with UNH's students of color
and LGBT students by Pay it forward. Become an Alumni
Admissions Representative through the
ASK-UNH program. Volunteers agree to talk or email with candidates for
admission to UNH (usually high school juniors and seniors) who would
like to get the experience of an alumna/us. ASK-UNH is an exciting new
way to actively invest in the future of the University and our students.
We're pleased to partner with Admissions in this way to help identify
LGBT alumni and alumni of color to assist with this worthy endeavour. |
