International Student Orientation General Information
International Student Orientation is a program designed for new international students, undergraduate and graduate, and attendance is mandatory. The Fall program is usually three or four days long, and covers a wide variety of topics. Orientation for students beginning programs in the Spring semester is compressed into one day.
During Orientation, we explain your immigration rights and obligations, US employment and tax laws; we assist you in getting a UNH ID card and US Social Security Number (if applicable); and we introduce you to fellow students who share their insights and knowledge with you to make your transition to UNH a smooth one!
Note: Graduate students with UNH research or teaching assistantships must attend Graduate Assistants Orientation. The Graduate School will provide specific information on date, time or place.
All new international undergraduate students should arrive in Durham for the Fall semester when UNH residence halls are open for early move-in. UNH Housing will announce those times. Do not be confused by information that is meant for new US undergraduate students who typically arrive several days later than new international undergraduate students.
International Student Orientation begins with Check-In with the staff of the Office of International Students and Scholars in the Memorial Union Building. You must bring all of your immigration documents (passport, I-94, I-20/DS-2019) to check-in.
All international students who are new to UNH must attend International Student Orientation, even if previously a student at another US educational institution.
