The Jere A. Chase Ocean Engineering Laboratory
The Jere A. Chase Ocean Engineering Laboratory has been the home of Ocean Engineering since its completion in 1994. Also located within this laboratory are the headquarters for the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping/Joint Hydrographic Center (CCOM/JHC).
Equipped with state of the art testing facilities for ocean engineering the Lab has two test tanks. Information on tank usage and rental fees can be directed to Andy McLeod at andy.mcleod@unh.edu or 603-862-2406.
The Tow Tank/Wave Tank, measuring 12' x 100' x 8' deep, enables research where test bodies can be towed, subjected to wave action or both. Wave creation is possible using a hydraulic wave generator that can produce 2 to 5 second period waves of maximum amplitude 0.39m.
The Engineering Tank, a 60 x 40 x 20 foot tank, has a variety of uses such as sonar system calibration, SCUBA diving training, and testing of engineering systems requiring the volume of the tank.
The Lab also has contemporary electronic and machine shops where prototype electronic acoustic and mechanical systems are designed, developed and evaluated.
