~~ NTSO MEETINGS ~~

The NTSO conducts regular meetings so that non-traditional students have a way to connect with each other and to share the experience of being the only "old" person in class, etc.
This is a specific meeting time intended to gather non-trads to meet one another and discuss the organisation and how to make it an entity that is most useful to everyone involved. We are open to contributions from anyone interested in participating.

The NTSO meets once a week
during common exam time. Meeting times will be posted on
the "UPCOMING EVENTS" link
when the meeting times are scheduled each semester.
Meetings are held either in the Non-Trad lounge, MUB Room 112 or across the hall in the NTSO office, MUB room 113.

We try to do a potluck meeting once a month and then provide pizza at another meeting.
We also do some programming. Details are sent out on our listserv and posted in the lounge. We're always looking for ideas for programming, and there is space in the lounge for non-trads to post anything they're interested in doing.
Weekly we send a newsletter out on the listserv with information about what we're doing, what members are doing, services on campus, and scholarship information.
If you're able to join us for the meetings we would love to have you join us. If not, I would recommend signing up on the listserv so you'll know whats going on and can join us.
We also hold office hours on a regular basis if you ever have a question or just need to connect with someone. Please feel free to contact us if you have any more questions at ntso_unh@hotmail.com or 862-3455

** FINANCIAL AID **

If you have children in childcare, don't forget to bring proof of your costs to the financial aid office.
Childcare will have increased your cost of attendance at UNH and may open you up for additional money.

Check out the Scholarship Books at Wolff House.
Also, check out the NTSO's SCHOLARSHIPS link.

Looking for a job?
Follow this link for " UNH Student Employment Resources."
If you have work study, use it.
Many jobs are very flexible and the weekly commitment can be very minimal.
This is a great way to meet people in your department if they offer a position in the office.

*** LEGAL AID ***

IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF LEGAL SERVICES, CONTACT JOANNE STELLA AT:
Memorial Union Building, Room 115
Durham, NH 0382
Phone: 1-603-862-1712
Fax: 1-603-862-3759
E-mail: jmstella@cisunix.unh.edu

The Legal Services office provides legal advice and information in times of immediate need as well as preventative education and counseling in order to avoid unnecessary litigation. The attorney provides an initial consultation in all situations to all qualified full-time undergraduate students at no cost. The goal of the office is to provide legal advice and education to students in situations where they would be unlikely to obtain those services or access. Furthermore, one of the goals of the service is to educate students about their rights and their responsibilities as students and as citizens. Legal services will provide representation in those situations enumerated below and whenever possible without detracting from the necessity of being available to all covered students.

Availability of Services Defined

All students who pay a student activity fee are eligible for an initial legal consultation. After consultation the student will be offered free services for civil matters of less than $5,000.00 in dispute and violation level offenses. All matters requiring courtroom appearances must be within a 40-mile radius of Durham. The attorney may be available for other services that are consistent with the goals of the office and not unduly time consuming.

Representation in these and other areas may be limited by conflicts, such as student versus student disputes. Representation or advice regarding actions against the university is prohibited and the student will be referred to private counsel at their own expense. Additionally, students are not entitled to advice or representation on intra-university disciplinary matters often referred to as the judicial board. The attorney may decline any representation that would require more than 20 hours of legal work or which is without merit. The purpose of the exclusion is to ensure that the attorney is available to all students and not involved in protracted or unmeritorious litigation on behalf of a single student.

Some of the legal issues that JOANNE may be able to address for you include housing disputes, problems with leases etc and child support/custody litigations.

*** students' rights, rules and repsonsibilities ***

"I was enrolled at UNH before but my GPA was less then perfect. Now that I am back can I still get credit for the classes without having the poor grades count against me?"

07.3(as) Educational Reprieve Upon petition to the Academic Standards and Advising Committee, a former matriculated UNH student who has taken no courses for five or more consecutive years may, prior to readmission to UNH, request "educational reprieve." The procedure permits retention of the previous credit from all courses in which grades of C- or better were earned; but the former cumultaive garde-point average, although retained for informational purposes on the academic record, will not be used. A new grade-point average will be started upon readmission. Graduation honors will be based on the restarted grade-point average, provided a minimum of 64 graded semester hours (32 graded hours in an associate degree program) has been completed at the University subsequent to the reprieve. The notation "educational reprieve" will be written on the student's academic record.

rights, rules and repsonsibilities
