Research Guidelines For NRESS Students

The UNH Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) provides services to support research and scholarly activity of the UNH community. The OSR is a resource for funding, proposal writing, and responsible conduct and compliance in research.

Students in the NRESS Program must be sure that any research they are conducting complies with policies and guidelines for research on human and vertebrate subjects. The following one-page summaries outline compliance guidelines and include links to the OSR site for more detailed instructions and application materials.

Human Subjects:(MS word)

All UNH research activities proposing to involve human subjects must be reviewed and receive written, unconditional approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB) before commencing. This policy applies to ALL research, including that in the humanities, and behavioral and social sciences regardless of whether it is funded or not.

It is necessary to follow these guidlines for any research involving human subjects including the use of interviews or surveys.

Vertebrate Subjects: (MS word)

At UNH, all activities proposed to involve the care and use of live vertebrate animals must be reviewed and receive written, unconditional approval from the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) before commencing. This policy applies to ALL research testing and instruction at UNH involving vertebrate animals, regardless of whether it is funded or not.
