Poster presentations will be conducted similar to those made by scientists, engineers and mathematicians at professional meetings. The poster session will be scheduled as a regular part of the symposium. Tables will be provided for poster set up. Posters will be displayed on 3’ wide x 4’ high poster boards on easels. Posters should be readable from a distance of 4 feet. Laptops, electrical outlets, and internet connections cannot be used for the poster session. No hazardous materials will be allowed. Specimens, apparatus, chemical agents, and models cannot be used during the presentation.

Use
of Lettering and Space
The research title should be at least one inch (72 pts.) in height.
The student’s name and JSHS region should be at least 48 pts.
Text is suggested to be at least 24 pt. size. Remember that this is a poster, so use larger type than on a manuscript.
Graphics, tables, charts and graphs should be emphasized.
Posters which appear crowded with too much data should be avoided.
Presentation of information should be balanced and organized in a logical, sequential manner.
Color
Color can be used in an interesting way to hold the attention of the viewer. Avoid a monotonous display.
What Poster Presenters Do During Poster Sessions
Presentation & Judging of Posters:
Students must be available near their poster during the poster session. They must be available to answer questions and discuss their research.
During the poster session each poster presenter will be given three (3) minutes to highlight the significance of the research to a panel of judges, elaborate on their work, and answer questions from the judges.
Judging criteria include quality of research design, poster, and presentation.
In general, judges will be using much the same kind of criteria as that outlined for the Paper Presentations.
All participants of the symposium, including students, teachers and guests, are invited to view the posters during this scheduled event.
Judges are chosen by the Director of the Regional Symposium. All decisions of the judges are final.
