Poster presentations will be conducted similar to those made by scientists and engineers at their professional meetings. The poster session will be scheduled as a regular part of the Symposium with no other activities occurring at that time.
An abstract is required. (See information on abstracts below.)
Preparing Your Poster
Composition of the Poster
Title
Researcher's Name
Methods
Results: Should be presented using graphs, tables, figures, photographs, and a minimum of text.
Conclusions: The conclusion(s), perhaps the most important part of the research, should be related to the project findings. The amount of verbage used on the poster should be limited and written in clear, correct, standard English.
Poster Size
Presentation may be on several posters, but all must fit on a 3ft. x 5ft. board (provided). Posters can be attached to the board with Velcro strips, tape, clips or thumb tacks (also provided). All display materials and items (graphs, pictures, etc.) should be attached to the poster or the 3'x5' board.
Use
of Lettering and Space
Title and Researcher Name: at least 2.5 cm high
Text should be at least 1.0 cm high. Remember, this is a poster so use larger type than is normal on a manuscript. All text should be legible from a distance of 4 feet.
Posters which appear crowded with too much data should be avoided. To help avoid crowding, consider giving interested individuals a copy of the research project abstract.
Color
Intelligent use of color can make the difference between a monotonous display and one that says, "for something interesting, come over here."
Presentation & Judging of Posters:
Students must be available near their poster during the poster session. They must be available to answer questions and discuss their research.
During the poster session each poster presenter will be given three (3) minutes to highlight the significance of the research to a panel of judges, and answer questions from the judges.
Judging criteria include quality of research design, poster, and presentation.
In general judges will be using much the same kind of criteria as that outlined for the Paper Presentations.
Participants of the Symposium (attending students, teachers, and Symposium visitors) will be viewing the posters during this period also.
