DURHAM, N.H. – Jason Cannon, operations program manager for the New Hampshire Small Business Development Center, has received the Association of Small Business Development Centers’ New Hampshire 2012 State Star award. Cannon, a six-year veteran of the NH SBDC, received the award earlier this fall.
Cannon coordinates operations for the NH SBDC statewide network, including management of the program’s MIS functions, upkeep of the website, and support for the state director’s office and the SBDC Advisory Board. He serves on numerous committees at UNH’s Whittemore School of Business and Economics, host to the NH SBDC program. Cannon also assists the New England SBDC network and its New England professional development program. His leadership and work preparing for the New Hampshire SBDC’s national accreditation onsite review was invaluable to the program and helped secure the SBDC’s third national accreditation without conditions in the last 10 years.
“Jason is highly respected by his peers, members of our advisory board and colleagues at the national association,” said Mary Collins, NH SBDC state director. “He is highly deserving of this award.”
“I have long thought of Jason as one of the unsung heroes,” said Adria Bagshaw, W.H. Bagshaw Co., Inc. and NH SBDC Advisory Board chair. “He is always working hard behind the scenes to make sure everything happens without a hitch.”
Cannon holds a bachelor’s degree in international politics from Pennsylvania State University and is pursuing a master’s in public administration from the University of New Hampshire.
N.H. SBDC is an outreach program of the University of New Hampshire Whittemore School of Business and Economics, and a cooperative venture of the U.S. Small Business Administration, the State of New Hampshire (DRED), the University System of New Hampshire, and the private sector. A part of 64 SBDC programs nationwide, the N.H. SBDC was fully accredited in 2010 by the Association of Small Business Development Centers. The N.H. SBDC has advised businesses for 26 years, helping 8,000 businesses create and retain more than 4,500 jobs over the last decade.
The University of New Hampshire, founded in 1866, is a world-class public research university with the feel of a New England liberal arts college. A land, sea, and space-grant university, UNH is the state's flagship public institution, enrolling 12,200 undergraduate and 2,300 graduate students.
