DURHAM, N.H. -- How can fishermen target high-priced shrimp and
avoid bycatch? Find out by attending a free informational workshop
sponsored by NH Sea Grant. The hands-on workshops will offer a chance
to learn about recent advances in shrimp-grate designs. A product
of partnerships between industry and science, the new grates are
designed to increase shrimp yield and reduce bycatch.
The workshops, free to fishermen from New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts,
will put the new gear on display and feature video footage of the
grates operating underwater. Gear designers will be on hand discuss
new approaches to shrimp-grate development and answer any questions.
The workshop will be held on two dates:
Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, 6–8 p.m.
Taste of Maine Restaurant, Woolwich, ME
Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, 2–4 p.m.
Portsmouth Fishing Cooperative, Portsmouth, NH
