DURHAM, N.H. -- New Hampshire’s commercial fishermen are invited
to attend a free Safety & Survival Training Workshop on Friday,
April 22, at the Yankee Fishermen’s Cooperative in Seabrook.
The workshop will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Knowledge of safety equipment and procedures can prevent an emergency
at sea from becoming a tragedy. This hands-on training workshop
will give fishermen an opportunity to become familiar with their
safety equipment before they need it. The workshop will provide
training in the four major vessel safety areas mandated by the U.S.
Coast Guard: fire, flooding, man overboard and abandoning ship.
To help ensure that enough workshop materials are available for
all who attend, please register for the event by contacting Sharon
Hughes at UNH Cooperative Extension (603-862.-1029) or Bob Campbell,
manager of the Yankee Fishermen’s Cooperative
(603-474-9850). For additional information, please contact Ken LaValley,
commercial fishing and technology specialist for NH Sea Grant (603-862-4343;
ken.lavalley@unh.edu).
The Safety & Survival Training Workshop is sponsored by NH Sea
Grant, UNH Cooperative Extension, and New England Marine and Industrial,
Inc., a Portsmouth business that supplies top-quality vessel safety
equipment and commercial fishing gear.
