DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire will host
a nine-day art and literature-based writing institute this summer
to provide teachers with in-depth training in both Picturing Writing™:
Introduction and Integrated Curriculum Model and Image Making™ Integrated
Curriculum Model. These unique art-and-literature-based processes,
proven by research to dramatically improve student writing, are
guaranteed to entice even the most reluctant writers.
By giving students access to visual and kinesthetic modes of
thinking at each and every stage of the writing process, Picturing
Writing and Image-Making provide an important pathway into writing
for children with diverse learning styles. This institute will
present teachers with a model for integrating art and literature
into the science and social studies curriculum.
The institute will take place July 12-16, and 19-22, 2004, from
8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Elementary classroom teachers, middle school
teachers, art, reading, and special education specialists and teachers
of gifted and talented are encouraged to attend. Deadline to register
is June 1, 2004. For more information and to register contact Liz
Arcieri at 603-862-3691 or visit www.picturingwriting.org.
