DURHAM, N.H. – The New Hampshire Educational Opportunity Association
(NHEOA) recently awarded four scholarships to deserving New Hampshire
students who participate in one of the state’s federally funded
TRIO educational opportunity programs according to Debbie McCann,
president of NHEOA.
This year, the Association awarded one scholarship to a college
level student and three to high school students who will be attending
college in the fall.
The scholarship winners:
- Dawn McFadden of Derry who attends New Hampshire Community
Technical College in Manchester and participates in their Student
Support Services program.
- Brandon Laurion of Rochester who attends Spaulding High School
and participates in the Educational Talent Search Program.
- Casey Raasumaa of Farmington who attends Farmington High School
and participates in the Educational Talent Search Program.
- Holly Wilkes of Manchester who attends West High School and
participates in the University of New Hampshire’s Upward
Bound program.
NHEOA fosters and promotes educational opportunity within the state.
Student scholarships are part of that mission.
TRIO programs, established by the U.S. Congress in 1965, promote
educational equality and provide educational opportunity to all
citizens regardless of race, ethnic background or economic circumstance.
The University of New Hampshire is home to four TRIO programs: Upward
Bound, Educational Talent Search, Student Support Services and the
McNair Graduate Program.
