DURHAM, N.H. -- – The New Hampshire Department of Environmental
Services is planning to apply to the Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) to designate the state’s coastal waters as a no-discharge
area. This would help protect the state’s shellfish beds
and keep its beaches free of harmful bacteria.
Ann Rodney of the EPA and Jody Connor of the New Hampshire Department
of Environmental Services (NHDES) will take part in a public forum
Thursday, Aug. 12, from 6-8 p.m. at the Wentworth Marina in New
Castle.
The event is free and will give area boaters an opportunity to
learn more about the no-discharge proposal and how it would impact
their activities.
The event is being convened by NH Sea Grant, the NH Estuaries Project,
the Wentworth Marina, the Great Bay Coast Watch and UNH Cooperative
Extension.
For more information, call the Coast Watch at 603-749-1565.
