DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire CEO Forum will present
“The `New' Newington Power Plant and What it Means to the
Future,” Thursday, March 11, 8-10 a.m., at the New England
Center in Durham. John McTear, Vice President of Asset Management
at Con Edison, Inc, will discuss the technical aspects of the plant
and why it was built at this location.
The “new” Newington Plant, a 550-megawatt, combined
cycle power plant, is more efficient than conventional plants and
is capable of operating on natural gas or ultra-clean diesel fuel.
It is a merchant plant that sells its output into the energy market
within the New England power pool. McTear will outline the relationships
among Newington Energy LLC, its owners and Con Edison Inc. He will
explain the development process, including the market conditions
at force at the time decisions were made to proceed such as construction,
costs, schedule and commissioning. He also will discuss local spending
and property taxes, and the current market conditions and their
impact on the project.
