UNH Offers Art-Based Literacy

DURHAM, N.H. – Picturing Writing: Fostering Literacy Through
Art® and Image-Making Within The Writing Process® will be
offered during the month of January on the campus of the University
of New Hampshire. These two art-and-literature-based approaches
to literacy have been proven to dramatically improve student reading
and writing.
Elementary school classroom teachers, language arts teachers, reading
specialists, art specialists, and special education teachers are
encouraged to attend. Classroom facilitation practices, classroom
management, and mini-lessons will be addressed in each of the workshops.
The workshop schedule is as follows:
- Jan. 7-8, 2005: Picturing Writing: Fostering Literacy Through
Art® (An introduction)
- Jan. 9-10, 2005: Picturing Writing Integrated Curriculum Model
- Jan. 14-15, 2005: Image-Making Integrated Curriculum Model
The workshops begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. Each workshop
is $295 per person and includes a comprehensive teachers manual
and use of all workshop art materials. Graduate credit is available.
